Developing Space

Monday

Work

Man, this whole thing is getting to be a bit much. So many hoops to jump through trying to get things back on track from the shutdown and subsequent rules. We’ve kinda been skirting by, but it’s time to get things legit again. And with the way things work here it’s a pain in the ass. Also a lot of paperwork. Checks, paying gov’t fees, etc.

The intern came into the office today. Part of why I was so busy this morning. I did my usual runaround with a couple extra stops. Checked on the villas, more than normal. Things seem to be on track for the upcoming bookings. There’s still work to be done at some places. I did pick up some hand sanitizer so that we have it for when it’s needed.

Didn’t quite get everything done that I had planned. But that just means more work for tomorrow. I guess that’s good so I have something to get me out of the house. I’ve mostly been winging it and getting by on as little as possible. Seems it’s time to be more proactive and get shit done.

Tuesday

Game Development

So I haven’t been doing anything in regards to this lately. This morning I decided to dust off Unity and jump in. I’m starting a new project, titled “Space Game” for now. I am really rusty when it comes to Unity though. I feel like I really need to just do it, I have ideas I want to put into action. Somehow I worked up the motivation this morning to actually try.

Work

Catching up today on government related stuff. Ran over to the gov’t building to pay bills and such. Got NHI and SSI done, but I have to wait a week to get what I need from them for my work permit renewal. Paid water bills for everyone too. Some of the departments have moved out of that building, luckily I didn’t need them right away.

Mental Health

I absolutely dreaded going to the government building today. Like, serious anxiety at the thought. It wasn’t bad while I was there, but the idea of dealing with everything I have to deal with is so stressful. It doesn’t help that the government keeps making up more rules and regulations and hoops to jump through. And it is even worse that the information is hard to find.

Wednesday

Game Development

I’m trying, I really am. I spent a little while today playing with some stuff. But I think I’m still being too ambitious. I need to go back to the beginning. Build a simple game from a tutorial and then expand from there. Maybe build a few games to get my mind back into what I need to do. Can I possibly find a few different simple game building tutorials that accomplish the things separately that I want in my game?

So I jumped into the drag and drop tutorial I’ve been holding onto. That alone won’t do what I want, but it is a step in the right direction. There’s three videos in the series, I’ve already made it through the first one. I think it’s getting my creative juices flowing, at least a little bit.

Thursday

Work

Got the housekeeper here today to clean up a bit in preparation for the inspection on Monday. I got caught up on some accounting today while she began her work. There wasn’t too much to do, but there was enough to warrant the work. After that was all done I ran out to do a few errands. Later in the day I helped the intern with a little work getting villas prepped for the inspection on Monday.

Pool Day (Friday)

Power

Of course, just before I was heading out to start on pools the power went out. Can’t exactly clean a pool properly without power . . . I’m hoping the outage doesn’t last too long. I might have to just go and do what I can while the power is off. I’ll just wait and see how long we’re without.

Game Development

Even though I’m not actively coding and developing everyday I’m still trying to do at least a little research. I bookmark new tutorials and stuff that I feel will be helpful. Time spent thinking about the game and related stuff counts too, right? I’m still waffling about what to do though. Should I just make complete games based on the tutorials or build what I can and try to implement it into a single game?

Pools

I decided to put in extra effort on pools today. Mostly because we’ve got guests coming in a couple weeks for all the houses. I did the pools a bit out of order, but I got everything done as needed. I cleaned the filters at the easy house and my old place. They took a bit of effort. I gave my nemesis a seriously good vacuum.

Saturday

Power

Jesus, can’t seem to go a day without something going wrong. Not even 9am and the power’s out again! I was just getting ready to go shower, but I can’t do that without power. Without power the pump can’t operate, so that means no running water. I hope they get this fixed quickly.

Game Development

Luckily, I’ve got something to work on while waiting for power. While I was laying down to sleep last night I had some ideas for the space game. So this morning I’ve begun putting a bit of it together. It’s not much yet, there’s definitely going to be a lot to even get the small bit done that I imagined as I lay in bed.

And surprisingly it didn’t take as long as I expected. All I really needed was a good starting point. I’ve been able to get a little ship floating in space with an infinite star field background. You can thrust and move the ship, the camera follows and the background shows movement. Obviously it’s not a full game, but it is a good beginning. I think my next step is to implement an objective marker.

Sunday

Game Development

I’m trying to see if I can do at least a little bit of game development everyday. It won’t happen, but if I can find a few minutes to accomplish something (or at least learn something) I will. Today it was rotation and key mappings.

This week’s featured image is another cloudy throwback. One of these days I’ll have a new photo for you, I promise.
