Monday

Space Game Development

I’ve done it, another day with active game development. Today I implemented a pause menu and added new scenes. It really wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. So that’s some new tools added to my collection. The untitled space game is taking shape, but the hard part is still ahead of me.

Work

Got an early start today because it’s finally time for government inspection. Hopefully after today we’ll get our certificate allowing us to do business. Just did some extra tidying around the house. Then the inspectors showed up. The official government inspectors for covid readiness come wearing masks wrong. Seriously?

Of course, they’re checking houses and run into some issues. Had to turn the hot water on at once place, which means they’re coming back another time to check that. Another house has no running water upstairs. Downstairs is fine, but not upstairs. Got a call out the plumber on that one.

Accounting

With the intern here doing some work I didn’t feel right just sitting and dicking around. So I got caught up on a bit of accounting. There wasn’t a whole lot to do, but what little there was I entered.

Gardening

I planted three new tomato seeds not long ago and they’ve already broken through the soil. I put a fourth in dirt today. I’m surprised they’re growing so quickly. It only took a day or two for them to germinate and then another couple days to become little plants.

Tuesday

Power

And as is usually the case, power went out. Just as I was doing dishes in preparation for breakfast. So I had to stop and wait until it came back on. Luckily I had already taken my shower. Unfortunately, without power there’s no fans, and without fans, it’s hot and sweaty. At least this time it’s the whole island chain and not just my street.

Game Development

Another day with work on the space game. So far it isn’t much, just adding a few more buttons to the main menu, creating scenes in relation to those buttons. Even with that little bit of work I see even more things I do and improve.

Coronavirus

Over the weekend there was a traveler who left BVI and went to another place. Upon arriving at their destination they were tested and found to be infected. The government here has now decided to implement a new 24-hour lockdown for the island that person was on. Luckily, that’s not my island, or the main island. But, this could mean things here may get rough really quick. Maybe time to stockpile again.

Mental Health

Not doing too good today. Didn’t really help that power was out for so long. I’m thinking this place just isn’t for me. Especially not running the whole business myself. I know I have to stick it out, it’s just not easy.

Wednesday

Work

Fuck! What a morning. . . Spent all morning dealing with government crap. Went by social security office only to find out I needed more stuff. Same with inland revenue. Second time around with the rest of what I need there was a long wait. . .

Then there’s labor. My work permit expires in a week. The forms I need from social security and NHI won’t be ready until after it expires. Luckily the guy at labor made it seem like it won’t be a problem.

Thursday

Work

Not a whole lot today. Ran down to our old house to meet up with housekeeper. She’s prepping for a photographer that’s staying over the weekend in exchange for photos. I then ran out later to pay some bills. Only one of the two places I was heading was open though. Going to have to try paying the internet bills again soon. I also stopped by the local hardware store for some more chlorine.

Game Development

The plan was to do a little every day, but yesterday was just no good. I want to jump in and get going again on it, but I’m not sure what to do next. After some more searching I found another few tutorials that will help me. Even if I don’t actually do any direct development today I’ve at least completed my goal of some form of progress for the day.

In the end I actually watched half of a tutorial video I found. Went through and implemented what I learned in my space game. I only anticipated doing a little research and prepping for another day, but in the end I actually worked on my game. Not a whole lot, but it was an important step.

Pool Day (Friday)

Pools

What a long day of work on pools it has been. I started with the house on the hill. I had to check to see if the water department finally got water flowing up there. Spoiler: They have not! The actual pool was pretty easy work. Next up was the easy pool. It wasn’t bad today. Just balanced and added a bit of water.

After a spot of lunch I headed down to Crooks Bay. I started at the amazing house. Just a bit of skimming, nothing major needed there. Then I hit up my old house. Pool was okay, but I gave it a thorough vacuum. Last week I cleaned the filter and there was still a bit of DE on the bottom of the pool.

Lastly was my nemesis. It was bad, so bad. The pool has too much cyanuric acid, so the chlorine isn’t doing its job properly. The pool was turning a bit green. I vacuumed the hell out of the pool and then added a bunch of chlorine. I’m hopeful that will help it clear up, but I won’t know right away.

Saturday

Game Development

Yesterday wasn’t good for working on my game. Today was though! I continued with the tutorial from Thursday. With that I implemented a save and load function into the space game! Keep in mind that the game is far from a game, but it’s getting closer to actually being something. I feel good about the progress I’m making.

Day Off (Sunday)

Home

Had some things to get done around the house today. I started with a simple breakfast. Once that was consumed it was time to give the dog a bath. She really hates water, baths especially so. Luckily, she’ mostly just sits in shock instead of constantly scrambling to get out. Once the dog was nice and clean it was time to do some laundry.

Game Development

So spent a fair bit of time today on the space game without getting anything done. Most of the time was spent looking for resources for the next section I’m working on. Unfortunately it’s just not an easy topic, and resources are hard to come by.

This week’s featured image is another throwback to last year. I figured I’d go with something relevant to this post’s title, so chose a nice shot of the moon.
