Bot or Not

Bots

While I was sleeping overnight I got myself a new user registration email. Been a while, and usually when bots come around I tend to get a few at a time. One thing I noticed about a lot of these bot accounts I’ve deleted is their email domain tends to end in “.club” for some reason. And this newest user registration was no different.

I decided to look up the email domain before just deleting it outright. There’s an actual website there. Doesn’t look like one of those fly-by-night spam bot sites. Content going back years, no signs of any affiliate links or other spammy attributes. So for now, this will be another one of those accounts that I think are likely bots but I’ll let it live until it pisses me off.

WordPress 5.0

So, WordPress 5.0 is available now and I’m afraid to update. . . . I worry that some of the many plugins I have installed won’t be compatible or things will go haywire. Should I update? I think I will. . . .

Updated

Alright, I’ve updated. So far so good. No signs of anything broken yet. The site still comes up, looks and acts the same. Plugin stuff all seems to be working and compatible. I guess maybe I was worried for nothing. I wonder if this will help fix the glitch where my blog posts twice to Twitter.

Work

Today we have some guests arriving and we needed to do some last minute preparations. We picked up a little welcome package for them. The usual sort of things like water, coffee, bread, eggs, etc. While we were at the villa I took a few pictures of a newly decorated room. Hopefully a couple of the pictures are good enough to use for our website.

While we were there I also did a little work on their pool. Just a quick scrub and vacuum. They have this little water feature that collects dirt and stuff, so I did my best to clean it. Unfortunately their filter doesn’t do a great job and just spits some stuff back into the pool.

Photos

In the end I took over fifty photos. I went through them and removed about half for things like bad angles, too dark, nearly identical as another, etc. Then the roommate went through them and picked three she liked. Afterwards I went back through and did a little work on them. I adjusted just about every attribute, brightness, contrast, saturation, etc. Those three photos are now on the site and they look pretty good. Not quite the professional quality of the others but pretty close.

Bad News

So the roommate’s boyfriend’s flight was cancelled. He’s stuck in Puerto Rico for the night. His new flight is supposed to take off tomorrow at 11am. Guess that means I’ll have the house to myself Monday instead of tomorrow. What video games should I play?

Featured Photo

Today’s featured photo is one of the better photos taken at the villa. I couldn’t find a better shot to use and thought I’d just show off my more  “mundane” work. Not my usual subject, but I do need practice. Plus, this gives you a better idea of the kind of places we rent.
