Creativity Unbound

Sunday

10/7

I posted my first weekly post this morning. I still don’t feel like that’s the right approach to things. I don’t think I’m all that great at this blogging thing. I’ve gone back to working on the company site, it’s something I should have been doing sooner.

I’ve run into an issue with an element in Avada, it should be able to round images within this element but I can’t find the option. Seems what I might have to do is some custom CSS. I guess for now I’ll leave the images square, lol. So far the test site is looking good, I’m sure there’s a lot more I can do to improve it, but slowly I’m working on things.

Starbound

I decided to install Starbound and give it another try. I’ve got 20 hours in the game already and a lot has changed since I last played. So far I’ve found the game to be rather difficult. I got stuck in a death loop for a while, but that might have been due to my own error. Playing on a laptop with a trackpad doesn’t help either. It does have a bit of a steep learning curve too.

After that one death loop I was able to make a comeback and I’ve done much better since. I’ve built a little shelter, collected a lot of ore, and picked up a few good items. Right now I’m still in the beginning stages of the game though, not sure exactly what the progression is. I’ve kinda gotten stuck on the first major hurdle though, that mine is hard.

Monday

10/8

Opened up the next door villa pretty early to ready it for the housekeepers. We have a guest coming to stay there tomorrow. Made sure all the TVs worked right, checked the AC units (one might be having some issues), and the hot water (which isn’t working, likely due to the recent weather).

Then it was back to Starbound while the roommate was in Tortola to do some banking. Finally made it past that damned mine, thing was a pain in my ass. Now I’m at a new planet searching for tungsten so I can make a breathing apparatus to mine on moons.

Got the tungsten I needed! Mined the crap out of some moons. I’m slowly getting the hang of this game. Progression is a bit slow though. With the tungsten I also upgraded a bunch of my crafting station thingies. Now I need durasteel to upgrade further.

Watched the new Doctor Who (wasn’t expecting it yet). I like the new Doctor so far. She’s quirky, as The Doctor should be. I do hope they go for some longer storylines though. I miss the multi-episode arcs.

Tuesday

10/9

Started the morning out easy with more Starbound and I’ve almost got the enough data on the Florans, missing only one scan (I think) from finding a single structure. I’ve got a nice cozy little home setup too.

Work

Had to go out and run some errands. Picked up some goodies for our guests coming in today and staged the villa a bit for them. That was cut short for me as we had a short meeting scheduled with our accountant. Afterwards we met up with our guests. Then spent a good while working with electricians and plumbers because the villa is having issues with hot water.

Wednesday

10/10

A long day of doing stuff. Spent a good while at one of the villas moving and unpacking linens. So much hauling in the heat, running stuff back and forth between buildings. The day just passed so quickly too. Before I knew it, it was almost evening.

I am happy though to have both The Flash and Black Lightning to watch tonight. I did get a bit of time to play Starbound too. I’ve gotten two of the keys for the main quest. Finding things to scan is a pain in the ass though. I think I need to find a world to do side quests on so I can expand my ship.

Thursday

10/22

The morning was spent running more errands. Dropped a check off at the ferry to be delivered, went shopping for the upcoming guest’s welcome package, and stopped by the villa to drop it off and check on its readiness. The power is out, couldn’t quite check everything. Scheduled outage, they’re doing some kind of work and power will likely be out for hours.

Luckily at home we have a couple of battery backups. We still have internet and will likely be okay during the whole of the downtime. Of course, it’s also possible that whatever keeps the cell tower we operate from online during outage might run out before it’s all over.

Power came back a lot earlier than expected. I spent most of time it was out conserving power on my laptop, reading Reddit. I picked out a few more writing prompts I’m interested in trying, but I just can’t seem to motivate myself. Hopefully one day I’ll get around to it.

Ugh, still water issues next door. In the evening the guests called because they had no water in their showers. Turns out they just had no hot water and because of the way the showers work it appeared as if there was just no water at all. I couldn’t do anything to fix it, so the plumber will be back out again early tomorrow to hopefully fix it for good.

Friday

10/12

I can’t believe I’ve read a whole book in a day. Two days in a row really. Good books too, although there is a bit I don’t like about the writing style. In case you’re interested, it is the Colossus of Rhodes Series. Not sure if you can get it anywhere but Amazon, first book is available free to read though. Now that I’ve read the first two I have wait two whole days to read the third! Ugh, lol.

Obviously, I got some work done today too. We ran some more errands, checked on an item at customs, stopped by one of the houses, the usual stuff. I did spend a bit of time working in QuickBooks too, although I’m not sure where all the information I need is. Hopefully the roommate will shed some light on that.

The guests showed, well half the part did. Not too late an arrival, only about 5pm. Got them all situated and made our way home for a late dinner of frozen pizza. Dusty was here waiting for us because we locked her inside from the rain. She looks (and smells) so much nicer after the guests next door gave her a grooming.

Saturday

10/13

Such a dreary morning. I slept in a bit more than usual because it was raining so hard when my alarm went off. There’s no sign of the rain letting up either. This is my first time with a seriously long and heavy rain too. The roads are a mess, they really didn’t think through the design very well in regards to drainage.

WordPress

I’ve spent a bit more time working on the company website, not a whole lot of changes though. I’ve been playing with the Property Management page some, I feel like I need to add some images and/or expand on the text for each point. I’m just not sure exactly what to do, I really feel like images would be the way to go, but should I make my own or use stock images?

Creativity

I kinda feel like I should try to write something creative but I just can’t begin. I’ve looked through some prompts on Reddit but nothing really caught my eye. It’s that whole blank page thing maybe, self-doubt too. I should just write something. . . maybe just a paragraph.

Untitled Short

John found himself alone again after a long hectic day at work. It was a nice reprieve from the hustle of his post. The cold metal under his bare feet was soothing as he sat on his bunk in his quarters. He spent some time just relaxing, his eyes closed as he took deep breaths focusing on the sounds from outside. Footsteps echoed in the hall beyond his door. Muffled voices filtered through what little soundproofing was provided.
As he opened his eyes he scanned his room. It was just the right size for him. Most others didn’t like how little space they were allocated for themselves but John found he liked the cozy feel. It was his own little slice of heaven. He had just enough space for himself and everything he needed.
His bunk served as not just a bed, but also a comfortable seat when using his terminal. He looked over at the photos he had on display. He thought about his family back home and wondered if they were thinking of him too.
John stood up and flicked on a display on the wall. After tapping a few button he was presented with clothing options and after a few more taps had selected his outfit. An empty compartment opened below.
He stripped off his work uniform and dropped it into the compartment then stepped into the open corner. A light mist of water surrounded him while a shimmering blue field encapsulated him to keep the water in. Water was such a precious resource. Every drop was collected and recycled.
John thought about the water closet, an ingenious design. It served so many needs on demand; a shower, sink, head, disposal. It handled all waste quickly and cleanly, everything was recycled.
When John finished, he stepped through the blue field. His skin tingled slightly as it collected the remaining water. The field collapsed slowly towards the floor. It collected the remaining water and sanitized the water closet until it disappeared into the drain.
Another door slid open in the wall. His clothes waited for him. It was a simple outfit that he usually wore for social occasions, nothing more than jeans and a t-short. He got dressed quickly because he knew Becky would be waiting for him.

Well, that’s all I have for now. It kind of feels good to have done something. Maybe I’ll expand on this, maybe I’ll start something new later. We’ll see. I’m going to add this to my Creative Writing page. I almost feel like continuing to write. I feel like I need some feedback on it though.

Starbound

I played a bit more Starbound. First, I explored underground where I setup my home. Got a bunch of resources. Afterwards I explored other worlds and found a decently sized NPC village and bookmarked it to find later. I need to do a bunch of quests there in the hopes of getting some crew for my ship.

It didn’t take as much work as I thought, just a few quests and I now have three crew members and the first upgrade of my ship. A couple of cute Florans, and one really psychotic looking dude. Pretty sure the NPC morphed upon hiring or something cause I swear it didn’t look like that when I was questing.
