Improve All The Things

Social Media

From my previous research into all things web marketing I learned some things about posting to social media. I’m not an expert, not even close, but I read a lot of detailed articles about what the real “experts” say you should do. One of the biggest things I’ve found that ring true in my experience is about when to post.

I’m sure I’ve talked about this before in relation to my business website. Everything I’ve read indicates the best time to post to social media is early afternoon. Specifically Monday through Friday. I wonder how well that holds true for me here? Should I really care?

I guess at this point it doesn’t matter, my reach is abysmal. My old fanbase from YouTube is years stale. Only a few followers on Facebook actually look at my posts. I do see that there are a few out there who are still paying attention though, and I appreciate you!

Originally I was resolved to only publish these blog posts in the afternoons. But I think for the time being I will just publish them when they’re ready. Other posts, ones that aren’t The Daily Grind, I will schedule though.

Autopublish

I’ve decided (again) that I don’t really like how the automatic publishing I setup yesterday works. So I have once again updated the text of the message. In doing so, I really wish there were more options as to what I can have it auto-fill. It can add the title of the site or post but it won’t use post category or series.

SEO

I’ve realized this site isn’t easily found when you google Munchmo. I’ve got so many top results for that for things like Facebook and YouTube, but this site shows up in the middle of the second page. I really need to fix that, find a way to drive Munchmo.com to the top of results for that keyword.

How can I do that? I think one of the biggest driving factors is relevance. The site is relevant, but without any traffic Google doesn’t know that. Another things that helps drive traffic and show relevance is backlinks. That’s not really something I’m going to work for, yet.

I have updated my SEO settings for Yoast to add the site domain “Munchmo.com” into the title for nearly every page. That might help a little bit, but I’m not so sure. Maybe I should see if I can do something to improve the “About Me” page . . . Try to optimize that for the keyword. Drop more links to relevant sites and pages.

The Projects Project

I’ve spent a good deal of time today doing more work on this site. I’ve decided that The Projects Project will need to be renamed. That series has mostly become something about site improvements. Not completely though. Maybe I should break it into two series? That would make sense, so I’ll do that another time.

Dish Issues

So the villa next door was having issues with their TVs. They have those dual tuner boxes that allows different shows to be watched in different rooms. The problem was, whatever they did on one TV was mirrored to the other.

First issue I found was that they had somehow switched the receiver to solo mode. With that, they had Shared View enabled. Makes sense that it would do what it was doing, right? Well, I have a feeling that was like that as they tried to troubleshoot the problem themselves.

Second issue, likely the source of all the problems to begin with, was something so simple. Wanna guess what happened? They changed the channel on the TV. They were tuned into the channel that is used for the main tuner, not the channel used to for the second. The fix was as simple as just hitting the channel down button once. . . .

Writing

I’ve come to realize that I’m not very good at using simile and metaphor. I mean, I understand how they’re supposed to be used, but I just can’t come up with any good comparisons to what I want to say. I’m hoping in time that I’ll be able to improve that aspect of my writing.
