Coronavirus Crisis

What Did I Accomplish This Week?

This week I got all the accounting done for February! I also managed to drop my phone and break its screen 🙁

Moronic (Monday)

Gardening

Oh noes! My tomatoes aren’t looking so good. Wilting and yellow leaves, they look like they’re dying! I diluted some hydrogen peroxide and watered the plants. I hope it’s just bad water and they can come back from this. It might be too late for one of the plants, luckily I have a few.

Accounting

Ugh, the whole day was spent in QuickBooks. I got so much done though, all of it! I did run into a few snags, as I expected I would, but I made my way around them. Every last bit of last month was finished today. Last thing to do is to go over everything again and look at the statements for errors. At this point my brain is just not gonna do that, only so much accounting I can take in a day.

Tuesday

Work

Started out with the usual housekeeper transport. A taxi is me! After that I took some time to look over the owner statements I produced yesterday. Everything looks okay, to me. The roommate still needs to go over them. Our P&L is looking pretty good so far, but these are two of our busiest months, so likely our top earners.

Gardening

The tomatoes are still not looking so hot. It’s very possible they may never recover, but I’m hopeful I’ll get at least one good plant out of this. The worst part is the most promising plants are the ones that are dying, so I gotta wait even longer before I can put something in my planters! I’ve put down another seed in the hopes this one will do better than the rest.

Wednesday

Work

We recently took on another new villa. This house had its own website, so I have been tasked with changing stuff on there to reflect us as the party responsible for bookings. I spent the morning combing over the site changing all contact details to us. Stupid site is running on a custom theme with hard coded information. I had to manually edit the header and footer files in the theme to make some of the changes.

Warframe

Argh, this mastery rank 8 test is kicking my ass. I’ve tried (and failed) many times. I’ve been able to make it as far as the vertical jump, just can’t seem to make it. Otherwise, things are going well, unlocked both Eris and Sedna. Almost maxed out Limbo, still haven’t started with Frost yet though.

Thursday

Work

Not a hard day at work today. I had to do a service to the leaky pool and its sibling. They weren’t too bad, but we have guests coming in today so figured a clean pool would be nice and it would lessen my load tomorrow. After that I ran some ceiling fans to another house for installation later today.

Pool Day (Friday)

Pools

Let’s see, I started with the new pool. It was pretty easy, as expected. Then was onto the easy pool, again, also easy. Went by the amazing house, it’s pool wasn’t looking great, but the place is going to be empty for a while, so I just added water and left it there.

Then after lunch I attacked my nemesis, it was a struggle, but I beat it down with a good vacuum. Then I spent a while at the old house vacuuming the pool there. While I was there I added water too. It’s got this automated water system but the batteries are dead so every time there’s a power outage it resets. I’ve tried fixing it, but it’s just broke.

Phone

Oh no, I dropped my phone and cracked the screen! This is the first phone I’ve ever broken the screen on, but was bound to happen eventually. Luckily it’s still usable. I highly doubt there’s any way I can get it repaired here. The actual repair doesn’t seem too hard, but getting parts would be a pain. I’ve had the phone for over two years now, so I guess an upgrade wouldn’t be a bad idea. Just has to wait until I’m heading back to Atlanta in September. I hope it’s still available then.

I’m thinking about the Pixel 4 XL. It’ll run about the same price I paid for this phone, and it would be a good upgrade. Just kinda sucks paying $1000 for a phone and only using it for two and a half years. Comparing the new to the old, there’s definitely a big improvement, and wireless charging! That’s definitely something I want.

Yes, I really like the official Google phones. Every smartphone I’ve owned has been a Google phone, starting with the Nexus One. I just like the fact that it’s not bogged down with third party software and garbage. It’s possible by the time I’m ready to actually buy there might be another Pixel available too.

Saturday

Puppy

The neighbor kids came over early today to play with the dog. She really enjoyed the workout. Lots of chasing the ball and refusing to bring it back. Her favorite game isn’t fetch, but keep-away. Now she’s just a puddle on the floor cause she’s worn out.

Accounting

Started out the morning with accounting. I had a lot to catch up on because I put it all off after month-end. It really wasn’t too bad though. Only spent about an hour inputting everything. The systems and processes I use have gotten a bit streamlined now so things are much easier for me.

Work

I also made two final changes on the website for a new villa we represent. I removed old (2016 rates) rental information from one page and added our booking calendar to another. The site itself needs a major aesthetic overhaul, but that will be a lot of work because right now everything is hard-coded into the custom WordPress theme.

Game Day (Sunday)

BQM

So I got a new game on the Switch, BQM. It’s a cute little puzzle game where the players make their own maps to share. I’ve made a couple, you can check them out here. Not sure if players on other platforms can play them though.

Warframe

Continued the main quests in Warframe. Completed The War Within. Gave a good amount of backstory to the universe but most of it was spoiled because of a video my friend made me watch. That’s okay though, I don’t mind the spoilers. There’s still more story quests I haven’t had spoiled.

What Did I Accomplish This Week?

This week I’ve gotten another tomato plant started. I’ve also created a couple dungeons in BQM.

Holiday (Monday)

Work

Even though it’s a holiday I still had to do a slight amount of work. . . Who am I kidding, I didn’t do squat! Hahahahaha . . .

Games

Instead, I played around more with BQM. I’ve now made a money farming map, although I realize I can improve it, so I’m going to remake one. I played a few more levels, then later in the evening it was time for more Warframe. Not much to report on that, just worked on Nightwave stuff.

Gardening

I got another tomato seed to sprout, so I’ve put that in soil. I’m hoping this one will do better than the last few. I’ve made some changes to my method now that I hope helps. Instead of using semi-transparent cups I’m using old cardboard tubes. I think the sunlight allowed algae to grow in the dirt and that killed the plants. With the tubes being opaque it should prevent that.

Tuesday

Work

First guests at our old house come today! The house is finally repaired and renting. Because of that, I had to touch up the pool before they arrived. It wasn’t too bad, but I wasted a good amount of time getting it pretty. We had all kinds of work happening there in a last ditch attempt to make it perfect.

Gardening

I dug a hole for some papaya seeds. It was really funny, I got the puppy to help me dig! She really had a good time. Filled it in with potting soil, watered it, then panted my four little seeds. I’m hopeful they’ll all grow and I didn’t screw up planting. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Wednesday

Accounting

Did some more data entry today. Just a few expenses and stuff. Not a whole lot to do. A couple checks, some cash spending, and some guest payments. Only took a short while. There’s more to do, but I’m putting it off for another day.

Gardening

That tomato seed that sprouted and I planted on Monday has already broken soil! I hope it does well because I really desperately want tomatoes. That’s weird for me, as I don’t like tomatoes, but I like things made with tomatoes. The basil is doing great, shouldn’t be too long before I can start harvesting it.

Thursday

Gardening

My basil is starting to show signs of insects, there are a few tiny yellow spots on some leaves. So this morning I went out and got a spray bottle. I’ve mixed together some ingredients in the hopes of making a good insect repellent. It’s only an 8 oz bottle. But I mixed 3/4 tsp of cayenne pepper, a teaspoon of garlic water (the stuff from the jar of chopped up garlic cloves) and a pump of soap. Filled the bottle the rest of the way with water. After letting it steep for a while I gave a good spray all over my plants.

The tomato seed that broke soil yesterday is now showing signs of its first leaves. Hasn’t fully dropped the seed shell, but hopefully by the end of the day the little Cotyledons will be fully showing. I’m excited to have a new tomato plant growing so quickly after all the others died. I’ve also put down some different tomato seeds (beefsteak) to germinate.

Pool Day (Friday)

Investing

With the stock market crashing the way it is I’ve decided to invest more. I took $1,000 and invested in a huge speculation. I’m really hopeful that things will recover fairly quick. When that stock goes back to it’s pre-crisis price it should double or even triple. It’s a risk, but hopefully it’ll pay off.

Pools

Pools were pretty damned easy today. Even my nemesis wasn’t too bad because the guests there have been skimming it. I was done with them all by lunchtime! Which left me a lot of free time . . . to do payroll.

Insane (Saturday)

Shopping

With this Coronavirus epidemic people are going nuts everywhere, even here. Decided to go shopping to stock up a bit because around here things can be stupid when it comes to groceries. The people here are already going nuts, even first thing in the morning the stores were pretty busy. Luckily we were able to stock a week’s worth of food with only having to hit two stores.

Work

The epidemic is also affecting work. People are cancelling their vacations, and the BVI is closing ports and implementing safeguards for incoming people. Right now we’ve only got two houses with people in them, and have closed up most of our villas because we expect them to be empty for a while.

I did run out today to check on an issue with a dishwasher at our old house. Seems the tap connected to it was closed. Easy fix luckily. After that I stopped by next door and made sure everything was closed up after the guests left. Got a nice little bit of goodies from there too!

Day Off (Sunday)

Gardening

I had a couple beefsteak tomato seeds that popped over the last few days. I’ve since put them in soil and one is already starting to show. It’s still not dropped the seed and showing it’s first leaves, but I’m sure it will soon.

Relaxing

Just the usual Sunday with laundry and video games. Got the laundry going early, got my sheets washed. Watched a movie, Knives Out. Played video games, Warframe. Not a whole lot else to talk about.

Featured Image

This week’s featured image is actually a throwback. I’ve just not found anything worthy of photographing, so I’m taking one of my favorite photos and showing it to you again. This photo was taken accidentally one day while I was down at the shore.
