Back to Work (Monday)

Accounting

Gotta dive right in to month-end accounting. Surprisingly, I got almost all of it done in short order! Just a couple things left to do before I can run reports and check the validity of everything. The main one is waiting on CC expenses from the roommate, she’s really bad about getting them to me on time. It’s very frustrating because it’s been a year since we started doing it this way. I just have to keep reminding her every single month. Other than that, I need to reconcile the bank accounts.

Game Development

At it once again. I’ve continued working on the main menu. Adding a little bit of functionality as well as adding some sound effects to buttons and such. Now, when your mouse begins too hover over a button a noise happens, and another one plays when you click. It is also worth noting that when a player decides to delete their save data the game will reload the opening scene.

Tuesday

Work

Started off with a couple phone calls from the neighbor while I was taking a shit. Didn’t leave a message or text, and didn’t answer when I called back later . . . Then the intern started bugging me about delivering a package for a guest tomorrow. Left my place at the usual time to get some supplies for the housekeeper, then came back home to continue the month-end accounting. At this point I’m just missing stuff from the roommate so I can finish it. Then I got to run out, pay a bill, check up on a house or two, and some other small things.

Game Development

Back at it again. I reworked a little bit of the existing stuff, then tried diving into creating the character. Boy, that might end up being pretty complicated. In the end I kinda just stopped and I’ll have to go back to it later. See, there’s a bunch of spritesheets that need slicing, like, many of them. Lots of work to do by hand. Tried to find an automated solution but it just didn’t work.

Wednesday

Work

Not a whole lot today. I got the employees working at the old place. Finished up the accounting stuff after bugging the roommate for her portion. I even finally got someone started on quoting me for landscaping at the leaky pool.

Game Development

Sorta got a bunch done, sorta didn’t get much done at all. Spent most of my time in Unity today playing with sprites. I started originally by working on the player character, but that became an enormously tedious task really quickly. So then I moved onto my tilemaps. That became a very confusing task pretty quick, but eventually I figured it out.

Thursday

Work

Got an arrival tomorrow morning early. Employees are working hard today to prepare for that, and so am I! I spent hours working on pools in preparation. Hard work too, lots of scrubbing. I sure hope it looks okay.

Game Development

I continued my streak today by cutting up more sprite sheets. It’s a tedious and boring process but it’s necessary.

Friday

Work

Very early start today. Early guest arrival. . . Had to go up there and open the place up and prep. Then I got to go home and kill time until they arrived. Got them settled in their villa and was on my way to service the rest of the pools when they messaged asking to take a look in the bedroom they’re not using. Opened it up, showed ’em around, talked a bit and was on my way. The pools were easy-sauce.

Game Development

I’ve continued working on character sprites and animation. It is tedious and repetitive work. Although, I really only did get a single character done today. Mind you, this was the first, so I was still learning how these characters are supposed to be cut and animated. Now that I have the first done, the rest will be easier. I did find a trick that allows me to take a small amount of the work I did on one character and “reuse” it on most of the others.

Saturday

Accounting

It’s Saturday, which means entering my accounting data for the week. There wasn’t as much as you’d think because I got a bit entered earlier in the week when I was doing the month-end stuff. There was still a couple of cash expenses and checks to enter, but it didn’t take me all that long to get done.

Home

So, the kittens that were birthed under my porch are now old enough to go walking around and explore on their own! This means they’ve found the porch itself where I feed momma, and they seem to be eating dry food already. Not just that, but they’ve taken over the Rubbermaid tub I put out there with a towel in it. They’re just the cutest little things!

Sunday

Game Development

I spent all morning working on a simple concept that dragged me down a deep hole and in the end rolled back everything I did today. I don’t know if it’s because I’m using a beta version or if I have incompatible components installed or I just don’t know what I’m doing. There’s a few semi-related things I want to be able to do. I want to be able too make everything monochrome, and I’d like to be able to “highlight” things in the world, preferably while the world is black and white. Couldn’t make it happen, screwed so much up nothing was working right so I just rolled the project back to when I stopped working on it yesterday.

It probably took more than an hour to roll the project back. Once it was done, I actually removed a component I had been playing with (Cinemachine) and installed one of the components (Universal Render Pipeline) I had been playing with earlier. By the time I was done eating dinner (30 minutes or so) I had successfully done what I spent all morning trying to do. Turns out using a beta version is harder because the tutorials don’t have the same UI. . . .
