The New Normal

What Did I Accomplish This Week?

This week I left the house, and explored the new normal. I don’t like it.

Back to Work (Monday)

Curfew

Man, shit’s starting to roll! Ain’t even 8am and so much traffic out there. Lots of big trucks, people already doing their construction work. It makes sense, they’re only allowed out between 6am and 1pm for the foreseeable future.

I was really lucky to find a mask at one of our houses! No need for me to make a mask, but I might anyway. This is one of those disposable masks people use for painting. At least it’ll allow me to go shop when I need to.

Work

Started the day as planned. Met the handyman and gave him money and work. Then I was off to check on all the houses. All the pools need water, left hoses in each for a couple hours. Other than that, everything’s pretty good. I was able to just barely get everything done before it was time to get home.

Restocking (Tuesday)

Stockpiling

I know, I know, the lockdown is over, I don’t need to stockpile. But I’m going to do it anyway. I plan on maintaining at least two weeks worth of food in my house at all times. I headed out to the grocery stores and almost didn’t go shopping. The first one I got near looked like it was going to be a big pain, so I headed back home.

Luckily, my route home took me past another store and it didn’t look too busy, so I stood in line to get inside. Once inside the store was pretty empty because they’re limiting the number of people allowed inside at once. I was able to get a whole bunch of stuff there. I mostly stocked up on frozen stuff.

Unfortunately, they didn’t have any good coffee, no sugar, and no decent flavored creamer. I did get some crap coffee and half & half though. While shopping I did pick up a few things that weren’t on my list. Speaking of which, I need to mark things off that list now.

Curfew

The government here is strongly recommending stores require people wear masks for service. Pretty much all stores are requiring them for service. But one thing I’m noticing is people are wearing masks when they don’t need to. I see them driving and walking around wearing them. Really, I don’t see the point in that. I personally am only going to wear one when I need to.

Work

Continued the work from yesterday adding water to a couple pools. I also took care of the little bit of accounting I had waiting. Handyman has been busy up the hill working on a project. There’s still more to do, but so far things are moving along well. There’s a limited number of hours everyday, more than usual, so I can only do so much.

Normal (Wednesday)

Curfew

There really aren’t enough hours in the new normal to get much done outside the house. It was almost noon (curfew is 1pm) before I got much of anything done. Stores take longer to shop at (and they weren’t fast to begin with). The heat today is killing me, especially since I haven’t been able to get more water. Both machines I tried were out of service.

Work

I got water delivered to the house on the hill. Was planning on two trucks, but with curfew there was only time enough for one today. Will get the other tomorrow I guess. Didn’t make it to my nemesis and the amazing house today like I planned. Guess I’ll be servicing all the pools tomorrow or Friday.

Normal (Thursday)

Health

Meh, my stomach doesn’t feel great today. Unfortunately, that means cleaning pools isn’t gonna happen. I’m not really sure why I don’t feel great. I need to go out grocery shopping today too. It’s just a little sour, but that’s enough to make me not want to do anything.

Work

I did get some work done. I transferred more stuff from Wunderlist to UpKeep. Mostly the maintenance tasks. There’s still a ton of stuff in Wunderlist, but most of it isn’t important. We also got a booking! It’s a local doing a staycation at the end of May.

Pool Day (Friday)

Pools

Ugh, still not feeling great, but I gotta get stuff done today. So I was off early to start on pools. Didn’t actually take as long as I expected, got home with time to spare. And while I was out I got my water jugs filled!

Most of the pools were pretty easy, except for my nemesis, of course. That pool was a total bitch. There was so much debris in the pool. See, no landscaping means lots more leaves. I had to empty the pump basket at least five times. But in the end I won the fight!

Accounting

I also spent a bit of time dealing with accounting. There’s definitely still more to do but it shouldn’t be too bad. I’ve got to go through my month-end checklist. But almost all the expenses are accounted for. I’ve worked hard enough today though, time for a break.

Normal (Saturday)

Restocking

I was going to go grocery shopping this morning. I headed out to the stores, but there were cars parked everywhere. Even at 8am on a Saturday morning the stores are too busy. It’s not that I’m worried about the virus, it’s just that I don’t want to deal with that. So I turned my truck around and headed home.

Accounting

I took a stab at accounting. Surprisingly easy, probably because there were no guests and near zero expenses for the month. Still a bit more to do, but most of my month-end checklist is complete. Waiting on one employee’s hours so I can pay them and input the data. Also waiting on the bank to put out the statement for April. I guess they’re still trying to catch up in the limited amount of time they have.

Normal (Sunday)

Relaxing

I didn’t do much of anything today. I spent all day watching television. Two great new shows that I started watching, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and Upload, kept me entertained. I absolutely love both shows and have already finished watching what’s available.

Featured Image

This week’s featured image is another throwback. I took this one at the house I lived in when I first moved here. Sorry, I just can’t motivate myself to do much of anything, let alone take photos.
